Our newsletter aims to provide digital technology news and information to Principals, ICT or Digital Learning Coordinators and Teams, teachers and all those involved in education.![]() Spotlight: Guidance on Artificial Intelligence in Schools ![]() The Department of Education and Youth has released new Guidance on Artificial Intelligence in Education for teaching and learning. The purpose of this guidance is to support school leaders and teachers to develop an understanding and knowledge of relevant considerations regarding the use of AI in teaching and learning and school leadership. The Guidance also provides information about our AI in Schools Hub which includes the AI for Schools online course, the Webwise AUP Generator Tool and relevant Good Practice Videos. Further details on these are also given in the sections below. Online Courses ![]() AI for Schools Following the release of Guidance on Artificial Intelligence in Schools, there is no better time to get an introduction to the topic with our recently updated short online course on AI for Schools. This self-paced course is for all school leaders and teachers in primary and post-primary schools. ![]() Leading Digital Learning School leaders: do you want to better empower yourself to carry out your role in leading digital learning? Develop competence in this topic by engaging with our online course on Leading Digital Learning, choosing either a module of specific interest or completing all five modules of this four-hour course in full. ![]() Cybersecurity for Schools School leaders and digital learning team members need to address the topic of cybersecurity to maintain a safe and secure digital learning environment for staff and students. In just one hour of study with our online course, you will be enabled to identify risks, take steps to create a secure digital infrastructure for your school and access key cybersecurity resources. ![]() ![]() AUP and AI updates The Webwise AUP Generator Tool is a practical resource for incorporating AI use in education and the school environment into your Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). The tool allows schools to create or update a customised AUP and is completely free to use. ![]() Safer Internet Day 2026 Information Session Looking for ways to get involved in Safer Internet Day 2026? Join a short information session on Tuesday, November 25th for: The online session takes place at 1pm on November 25th. ![]() Meet the Online Safety Commissioner In a recent episode of the youth-led Casting the Net podcast, the Webwise Youth Panel meets Ireland’s Online Safety Commissioner, Niamh Hodnett. They discuss the evolving online safety landscape in Ireland and Europe, the rights and protections for children and young people, and practical steps we can all take to enjoy a safer, more positive digital experience. It is a small post primary school with classes taught through the medium of Irish. ![]() AI in St. Mary’s N.S. Thomastown In this video, a sixth-class teacher and Digital Learning Coordinator at St. Mary’s N.S., shares how AI can be used to support teaching and learning in his large rural school. Digital Technology Infrastructure ![]() School Websites: Accessibility In terms of school websites being accessible, schools are subject to the ‘Website Accessibility Directive’. The National Disability Authority (NDA) is both the expert organisation and the responsible state authority in this area. Information on how websites can comply with relevant accessibility requirements can be found on the NDA site. ![]() ![]() Sustainability Webinar Join Scoilnet and the Irish Schools Sustainability Network on Nov 11th, 4:15–5:00pm for our webinar on Sustainability. Please contact your local Education Support Centre for further details. ![]() The BRICS Project Launch The second iteration of the BRICS (Building a Real-World Integrated Curriculum in STEM) Project was launched recently. This exciting initiative engages 4th to 6th class students in solving real-world problems using LEGO Spike Essential kits.
