There is limited time left to apply to our undergraduate courses! This Saturday, February 1st, is the deadline for submitting applications for the Bachelor in Acting, Bachelor in Stage Management and Technical Theatre and the Foundation Diploma in Acting and Theatre. Next week, we will kick of our year with the first show of 2025, Curse of the Starving Class by Sam Shepard. This play is a darkly comic exploration of the American family psyche, directed by MFA Theatre Directing graduate Katie O'Halloran! Book your ticket now.

Friends of The Lir Academy!

It's nearly the end of January and it’s not too late to make your final new year’s resolution! You can make a difference to the lives of young people undertaking life-changing arts training by becoming a Friend of The Lir Academy for less than €5 a week. Our Lir Friends help keep young creatives in education and also create access pathways for young people to creative careers. 

By signing up to our monthly direct debit you can become a Friend of The Lir Academy and also come to all of our shows – 10 a year - whilst making a huge impact. 

The Lir Academy is a registered charity RCN 20076689. All proceeds from our Friends of The Lir membership are used to support our students and build our outreach and access programme.

Patricia Leggett Scholarship

Now in its ninth year, the Patricia Leggett Playwriting Scholarship is a fully paid scholarship for a place on the MFA in Playwriting degree at The Lir Academy. You can see more details on how to apply through the link below.

Intro to Dance

Course Begins: 10th Feb (8 weeks)
Duration: 7.30pm - 9pm, Mondays


Learn 4 dances over 8 weeks, suitable for individuals and couples and no experience necessary! Sample the exotic rhythms of Tango one week and find yourself immersed in a crazy Charleston the next.

Introduction To Acting

Course Begins: 19th March (10 weeks)

The Lir Academy’s Introduction to Acting course is perfect for those who are both inquisitive about a future career in acting and those who simply want to challenge themselves by stretching their creative muscles.

Physical Theatre

Course Begins: 19th March (10 weeks)
Duration: 7pm - 9.30pm, Wednesdays


Physical Theatre is a course exploring the transformative techniques employed by the physical actor in performance. Students are introduced to physical principles and movement improvisation to discover the expressive possibilities of their bodies.

Intro to Playwriting (Online)

Course Begins: 6th May (10 weeks)
Duration: 7.30pm - 9.30pm, Tuesdays


Develop the tools to craft stories using frameworks such as narrative structure through plot and setting. The course will look at how stories unfold to engage, fascinate, or tease an audience. It will also explore character and dialogue.

Intro to Musical Theatre

If you love musicals and want to have a go yourself but don’t know where to begin, this course is for you! We offer adults with a passion for musical theatre an opportunity to develop the fundamental techniques required to perform in Musical Theatre.

Lir at Work Courses

The Lir at Work is our communications training programme using acting techniques for people in the workplace. Check our upcoming communication skills workshops that are open to book on an individual basis, allowing you to enjoy our practical, engaging workshops, training alongside like-minded people from other organisations. 

Public Speaking, Fighting The Fear (In-Person) / January 30th / 10.00-17.00
This public speaking course incorporates a range of theoretical, practical and performance modules used to train professional actors. Under the expert guidance of our Voice & Performance coach, you will learn breathing, mindfulness and tension release exercises that will support your confidence.

Presenting Made Brilliant (In-Person) / February 28th / 10.00-17.00
This practical public speaking course will help you transform your presentations at work – by empowering you with the presentation skills necessary to deliver an impactful, confident and engaging performance when you need it the most.

Storytelling for Business (In-Person) / February 21st / 9.20-17.00
Storytelling for Business, is an effective communication skills workshop that will teach you how to use the power of storytelling to connect with, influence and inspire audiences with greater impact than ever before. .
