The recent TY Work Experience Programme at Sallynoggin College of Further Education, held in February and spanning four engaging days, was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on students from five local schools. This innovative program provided a platform for Transition Year students to explore diverse career paths and gain valuable insights into the world of Further Education.
Students actively participated in a variety of interactive taster sessions, led by experienced instructors and professionals. They had an opportunity to sample all of the courses on offer in SCFE. For example, they explored the world of health, fitness, and exercise through an adapted physical activity skills session. Budding criminologists put their skills to the test in a CSI-themed crime scene investigation. The program also offered glimpses into the creative fields of art, floristry and fashion design and styling, as well as performing arts, when students witnessed a rehearsal of the upcoming show.
Additionally, a dedicated guidance counsellor session equipped students with crucial information on course progression, qualifications, and funding options.
The program's success is evident in the overwhelmingly positive feedback received from students. The majority reported that the experience helped them consider new career possibilities and all participants enthusiastically recommend it to their peers.
The TY Work Experience Programme serves as a testament to SCFE's commitment to supporting young learners in their exploration of future opportunities. This program provides invaluable guidance and inspiration, helping students navigate their journeys towards fulfilling careers.
The program's positive impact paves the way for future iterations, ensuring that even more students benefit from this enriching experience. Stay tuned for information about the next TY Work Experience Programme at SCFE.
