PISA 2022 Results (Volume V)

The latest volume of PISA explores how ready students are to embrace learning strategies, stay motivated and develop confidence in their abilities. Countries like Korea are successfully reducing mathematics anxiety, Portugal leads in fostering critical thinking, and students in Costa Rica and the U.S. are improving their ability to assess online information. Yet, challenges persist: many students across PISA countries struggle with motivation, anxiety and self-directed learning skills, with socio-economic disparities playing a significant role.

These findings highlight an urgent need for tailored interventions to boost motivation, build confidence and nurture lifelong learning skills—especially for disadvantaged and low-performing students. Check out our report and read actionable insights to empower students for a brighter future.

Ask an expert: How can we empower children to help shape the future of our societies?

19 November 16:00 CET

Child empowerment remains high on education policy agendas around the world. The growing view is that children are autonomous agents of change who play important roles in shaping current and future democracies. A large body of evidence suggests that education systems can help empower children to act on topics that they feel passionate about and that affect them, as outlined in the 2024 OECD report, “What does child empowerment mean today?”.

In our second Ask an Expert webinar on child empowerment, we’ll continue to explore what child empowerment can look like from different perspectives, building on the first webinar earlier this year. Join us as we discuss the challenges and opportunities in creating child-centered policies and practices that acknowledge the rights, experiences and opinions of children in education systems worldwide.

Artificial intelligence is reshaping jobs and automating more and more complex tasks. Why governments need to do more to support the transition to electric vehicles?

As the world braces for record-breaking temperatures in 2024, reducing CO2 emissions from the automotive industry is more urgent than ever. However, the transition to EVs faces a major hurdle: a workforce unprepared for the shift.

This blog, based on research from the London School of Economics and the OECD Centre for Skills, explores how skill gaps in vehicle maintenance and repair threaten the efficiency of the EV transition. It also highlights solutions, including public investment in upskilling, mandatory EV repair certifications and stronger policy commitments to meet green targets. Discover how governments and businesses can drive change to secure a greener, more sustainable future.
