Welcome to the Post-Primary Languages Ireland Newsletter. We are here to support you with innovative, informative, and useful resources, news, and ideas. 
We will host a series of online information sessions next week in Polish, Lithuanian and Chinese to help students and parents become familiar with the Leaving Cert curriculum and also learn about language classes available for students that are funded by the Department of Education. We’ve updated our French, German, Spanish and Italian TY modules and are excited to announce the addition of Polish and Romanian! These resources are designed to introduce beginners to the language and can be further developed by teachers into a full unit. Explore the updated modules here>>
This year's #ThinkLanguages Week looks like being our biggest yet! The Irish Film Institute and universities across Ireland are also involved, with the Department of Foreign Affairs kindly sponsoring the prize for this year’s Champion Team Competition as well (enter by next Friday 25 October!). Is your school involved in Say Yes to Languages or #ThinkLanguages this term? We are encouraging TY students to visit and engage with nearby participating primary schools during #ThinkLanguages Week to promote languages in the local community. Learn More>>
MFL teachers will be interested in the new three-hour online course on Digital Technology for MFL Teachers, developed in partnership with Oide Technology in Education. Following a well-received short pilot late last year, the course is now fully available with unlimited access and runs until the end of the 2024/25 school year. Enrol here>>
The annual FLA Induction took place on Thursday, 3rd October at the Dean Hotel. Foreign Language Assistants from France, Belgium, Italy, Austria, Germany, Japan and Spain gathered together in a session that would prepare them for their year at Irish schools. PPLI is delighted to welcome Naoko Takatsuka, new Japanese Language Advisor, to the team. Naoko is seconded by the Japan Foundation to the Department of Education, and deployed to PPLI to support and promote the development of Japanese in the curriculum. Read more>>
