RPL is the process by which prior learning is identified, assessed and recognised by an educational institution as part of its programmes, courses or modules. This Open Course supports tertiary staff to understand RPL within their own context and consider its application, potential impact, and the alignment between policy and practice.
Developed in partnership with contributors from Munster Technological University and Mary Immaculate College, with updates by University College Cork and the RPL in Higher Education Project.

Developing Intercultural Awareness

This Open Course is designed to enhance the multicultural experiences of staff, teachers and students within higher education in Ireland. It covers culture and the iceberg model, stereotypes, cultural dimensions, ethnocentrism, ethnorelativism, and intercultural attitudes, knowledge and skills. Developed by Munster Technological University.

Learner Voice

Learner Voice supports participatory and democratic learning environments in which power is shared, diverse perspectives are valued, and decision-making is more transparent and inclusive. This Open Course is for further education and training staff and adult and community education practitioners who want to embed meaningful learner participation in their practice. Developed by AONTAS.

Universal Design in Teaching and Learning
Starts 5 October | 25 hours over ten weeks
This Open Course provides a framework for embedding universal design into teaching practice. It is primarily for those teaching in classroom settings and focuses on teaching, learning and assessment, including the redesign of an element of practice using Universal Design for Learning. Developed in partnership with AHEAD and University College Dublin.

This Open Course applies the Universal Design framework beyond classroom teaching. It considers how services and supports, communications and interactions, and systems and processes can be enhanced for all users. Developed in partnership with AHEAD and University College Dublin.

This Open Course explores the use of augmented, virtual and mixed reality in education and professional training. It combines practical skills with critical, research-informed perspectives on immersive technology, including accessibility, learner engagement and ethical considerations. Developed in partnership with Technological University of the Shannon, South East Technological University, Munster Technological University, University College Dublin and Dublin City University.

Embedding the SDGs across the Curriculum
Starts 8 October | 25 hours over six weeks
This Open Course supports higher and further education staff to explore how the Sustainable Development Goals can be embedded more holistically across the curriculum. It considers the application of the SDGs across disciplines, programme and module design, and approaches to teaching, learning and assessment. Developed in partnership with Atlantic Technological University, University of Galway, Technological University Dublin and University College Cork.

Open Educational Resources and Open Educational Practices
Starts 12 October | 25 hours over six weeks
This Open Course develops the capacity of staff across Irish higher and further education in relation to Open Educational Resources and Open Educational Practices. It considers their relevance to quality, equity and sustainability, together with accessibility, legal and ethical dimensions, and emerging technologies such as generative artificial intelligence. Developed with contributors from the University of Limerick, Technological University of the Shannon, Dublin City University, Trinity College Dublin and CCT College, together with independent open scholar Catherine Cronin.
