Our newsletter aims to provide digital technology news and information to Principals, ICT or Digital Learning Coordinators and Teams, teachers and all those involved in education.FÍS Film Awards Laois School wins Film of the Year The 18th annual FÍS Film Awards took place on Wednesday 21st February in the Helix, DCU and was a celebration of the incredible films produced by schools across the country in 2023. Well done to all those who received an award yesterday, especially the pupils of St. Fiacc’s N.S. Graiguecullen, who won the prestigious Aileen MacKeogh Film of Year Award for their film 'Podorozh'. Don't forget! FÍS has also announced the return of their highly successful Storyboard Storytelling Competition. So yet again, primary pupils, it's time to get creative! The closing date is 5pm on Friday 19th April 2024. Online Courses Podcasting and the PLC All primary teachers will be interested in our short (1.5 hour) online course on Creating Podcasts for the Primary Language Curriculum, which is freely available, 24/7. As well as learning about Podcasting and the PLC, teachers will address several of the key standards in the Digital Learning Framework, particularly in the area of teachers' individual practice. Instructional videos - Primary Don't miss out on the last chance for primary teachers to engage in our online course on How to Create and Use Instructional Videos (Primary). Available until 21st June, this short (1 hour) online course will help you to use video to enhance classroom learning, enabling you to create a bank of teaching resources for reuse. Post-Primary Modern Foreign Language Teachers Widely available next year but running as a limited access pilot this year, post-primary MFL teachers will be interested in learning more about our new 3-hour online course on Digital Technology for MFL Teachers, developed in partnership with PPLI. The pilot is available until 26th May, but the course will be fully available again with unlimited access in the next school year. Good Practice Robotics and Coding with the WEAVE Project Teachers and pupils from Our Lady of Victories Boys’ National School describe their participation in the WEAVE project both from a staff and pupils’ perspective, highlighting the cross curricular links and intrapersonal skill benefits from taking part. Digital Tools for Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Teacher Vicky Bouché from Christ King Girls’ School outlines how she uses digital tools to engage students in their learning in her French language class, its use in teacher assessment and providing feedback to students. Digital Technology Infrastructure Computing Devices ‘Fit for purpose’ computing devices for teachers and students are critical in supporting teaching and learning. It is important that teachers are equipped with devices that allow them to carry out activities to support teaching and learning outcomes that align with the schools Digital Learning Plan, but also devices that they are comfortable with. Have a look at our ‘Computing Devices Guide’ for schools to assist them in selecting suitable devices for teachers and students. Seachtain na Gaeilge Is féile idirnáisiúnta Ghaeilge í Seachtain na Gaeilge, atá ar an gceiliúradh is mó dár dteanga agus dár gcultúr dúchais a bhíonn ar siúl in Éirinn agus in go leor tíortha eile gach bliain. Seachtain na Gaeilge is an international Irish language festival, which is the biggest celebration of our native language and culture that takes place in Ireland and around the world every year. St. Patrick's Day Themepage St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, known for spreading Christianity throughout the country as a missionary during the 5th century. Worldwide, people are encouraged to join together online and in person on March 17th to celebrate this special day. Our Themepage has lots of links to activities and resources to support your St. Patrick celebrations. Sraith Pictiúr 2024 A collection of support resources around the various pictures prescribed for the 2024 Oral Irish examination. These are among the most viewed resources on Scoilnet every year. Find out why people celebrate, and why chocolate eggs and bunnies are symbols of Easter - all on Scoilnet's Easter Themepage. SID Awards 2024 Did your school celebrate Safer Internet Day 2024? The SID Awards 2024 are open, and there are lots of great prizes in this year’s competition. The awards recognise and reward the brilliant activities in schools to celebrate Safer Internet Day. The SID Awards are open to all Primary and Post-Primary schools, and include categories for Best Overall Campaigns, SID Leadership Award, and the HTML Heroes Colour Competition. Ireland celebrates Safer Internet Day 2024 Over 200,000 children and young people around Ireland took part in activities to mark Safer Internet Day 2024! Students and schools hosted workshops, did lessons and presentations, wrote and performed plays, recorded podcasts and videos, ran poster competitions, and so much more! The #SID2024 theme was “Tech in Our World” which explored young people’s views on new and emerging technology, and the changes they would like to see online. A youth-led event on Safer Internet Day explored this theme and featured contributions from the Webwise Youth Advisory Panel, Ireland’s Online Safety Commissioner and many others.
