April 8th Guest: Kerrie Kavanagh

Head of Microbiology at Irish Equine Centre

Kerrie has a keen interest in the microbiology of the gut and the microbiome across al species of animals. Her work also involves dealing with outbreaks such as Strangles and Salmonella, reproductive venereal pathogens, enteric investigations, parasitology, and epidemiology (the study of diseases).

Host Wendy Conlon will be joined by Kerrie Kavanagh on Tuesday April 8th at 8.30pm. The topic for discussion: Gut Health - the factors that can affect it, and supporting challenged gut health.

The webinars are provided 'free to access' both live and, technology obliging, also as recordings. Those who join the live webinar can submit questions during the delivery.

Demystifying bone chips, bone cysts and more

Some points of discussion were:

Impact of and treatment options for bone chips and cysts

Angular and flexural limb deformities were discussed

Differing approaches based on commercial drivers i.e. rearing to sell early versus rearing to retain for longer production period were referenced

A useful oversight of DOD conditions with the breeding season underway

Farm Building Meetings

Farmers are invited to attend one of a series of Farm Buildings Seminars this April. Organised by Teagasc and the Irish Farm Buildings Association, the seminars aim to increase awareness of the key changes to building specifications under the TAMS Scheme and to enhance safety in farm building construction.

These seminars are for all farmers as opposed to specifically equine farmers. Anyone considering applying, or who has already applied for TAMS 3 funding should consider attending.

Young Breeder Training moves to Ardeo Sport Horses April 5

REGISTRATION CLOSING SOON!!

Young Breeder training welcomes those aged 15-30 years of age. The next World Championships takes place July 16-19, 2026 at the State Stud Celle in Germany (those born 2000- 2010 are eligible to compete).
