The REEdI (Rethinking Engineering Education in Ireland) BEng (Honours) in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering is a blended degree that brings in the best of manufacturing and mechanical engineering, culminating in flexible and adaptable engineers to meet industry needs. The REEdI student engineer will learn about the design and development of processes whilst also gaining an equally strong knowledge of the design, development and operation of products and equipment.
Students will learn “just-in-time” not “just-in-case”. The course will be delivered using cutting edge technologies such as augmented and virtual reality. In addition, students get to learn from top lecturers in the field, study and work with emerging technologies, work with world-class companies, learning using a blended approach, through classroom-based, as well as hands-on experience. The goal of the REEdI programme is to turn curious, creative, innovative and adaptable people into the engineers of the future.
Modern life involves more and more interaction with smart products including smartphones, fitness trackers, autonomous cars, virtual assistants like Alexa, electronic medical devices, energy monitors and industrial equipment. To meet user requirements, these products must have aesthetic appeal and must include sensors, embedded computing, communication networks, cloud-based services and an engaging and functional user interface.
Smart products gather and manage data and integrate with cloud services to best meet the demands of the modern user. Smart Products are part of the larger Internet of Things (IoT) world, but Smart Products provide the human-centric experiences, behind which lie the Computer, Sensor and Engineering Science technologies. In this way, they can deliver impactful personal and societal benefits in health and wellbeing, energy efficiency and sustainability, environmental protection and future transport.
The study of physical education has been a core component to the programme offerings in the Department of Health and Leisure Studies since 2005. The Department has a strong team of physical education specialists who have developed and delivered this programme to hundreds of graduates who went on to excel in the field of teaching quality physical education in Ireland and internationally.
The BSc (Hons) in Physical Education Studies with Business is designed to enable students to create, plan and deliver curricula, which integrate practical expertise and theoretical knowledge, appropriate to teaching Physical Education and Business, to a diverse range of learners in an educational context. Graduates of the programme will gain knowledge, skills and competencies that will equip them to constructively contribute to curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation both within their schools and a national context.
