This year marks an important year as we celebrate the 20th edition of the National Skills Bulletin, a series of reports compiled annually since 2005 by the Skills and Labour Market Research Unit (SLMRU) in SOLAS.
Since the first ever National Skills Bulletin was published in 2005, Ireland’s labour market has undergone profound changes, ranging from economic shocks (2008 financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic) and subsequent recoveries to disruptors such as automation, the digital and green transitions, demographic change, as well as a more general shift towards a higher skilled, smarter economy.
Within the context of these developments, Ireland’s labour market has performed well, particularly in recent years, with employment rates and numbers reaching record high levels in 2023. Together with near historically low unemployment rates in 2023, the outlook for Ireland’s labour market remains positive.
