President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins Dines at The Honorable Society of King’s Inns in Celebration of Daniel O’Connell’s 250th Anniversary
The Honorable Society of King’s Inns had the honour of welcoming President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, to a formal Dining on Friday 24th October 2025 marking an historic occasion as the President attended in his capacity as an Honorary Bencher for the first time. The evening also celebrated the 250th anniversary of the birth of Daniel O’Connell, the Liberator, a distinguished graduate of King’s Inns whose vision helped shape modern Ireland.

The Fellowship, named after the former Chief Justice Susan Denham, offers a unique pathway to a career in law, providing financial, educational, and professional support to aspiring barristers from a socio-economically disadvantaged background. Denham Fellows will be provided with financial, educational and professional support from point of entry to the Barrister-at-Law degree programme at the King’s Inns all the way through their first four years of practice at the Law Library culminating in a five year programme and ultimately in a successful, rewarding and long-lasting career at the Bar. The Antonia O’Callaghan Exhibition Moot took place on 17 October 2025 at King’s Inns
Judged by the Hon Mr Justice Anthony Barr, the Hon Mr Justice Conor Dignam, and the Hon Ms Justice Nessa Cahill, the event was also livestreamed and recorded as a teaching and learning resource for students. Two experienced mooters, Ben Williamson and Kyle Egan, presented both sides of a timely problem focusing on housing rights, designed by Céile Varley BL. After a close-run contest, the winner on the night was Benjamin. Many thanks to our mooting coordinators, Morgane Conaty BL and Mackenzie Ellwood BL, and to Dean Dr Eimear Brown and her team, for organising the moot.
