Changes to the ‘Materials Engineering’ module

‘UDL - Providing Timely Feedback’

A number of changes were made to the ‘Materials Engineering’ module to ensure students could engage effectively and participate with an online setting.

To facilitate this transition, Dr Owen Clarkin, Assistant Professor at the DCU School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering DCU Engineering, worked closely with DCU Studio to replace the module’s exam and tutorial elements with Loop quizzes, where students' learning and understanding could be monitored, and feedback/support provided. Students could work independently to attempt example questions.

The implementation of virtual tutorials allow students to understand and gauge their progress, providing them with the skills required to complete their summative assessments, emphasising effort and improvement.
