South east students invited to WIT to enjoy a day as a music studentWIT

Day-long event on 16 February is for students intending to study Music at WIT and will give students a sense of the required performance and music literacy standard

Lecturers on the BA (Hons) Music in WIT’s School of Humanities are inviting prospective Music students from schools and colleges of further education across the south east to its second ‘Music Student Experience’ day.

The BA (Hons) Music at WIT is on the restricted list of CAO courses, and students who have not yet selected it as a choice can amend their choices by 1 March for a fee of €10.

The event which runs from 10am-4pm on Thursday, 16 February at WIT's College Street Campus will inform CAO applicants about the BA (Hons) Music programme and provide them with workshops on the auditions or entrance tests for the course. Also on the agenda for the day is the opportunity to meet students and lecturers, participate in ensemble classes, perform in the lunchtime concert and record in the studio.

Dr Hazel Farrell, Programme Leader, BA (Hons) Music said that following last year’s inaugural day they received very positive feedback both from the visiting students and the staff that accompanied them.

“This event was extremely beneficial to both prospective and current students as they had the opportunity to work together and learn from each other. It provided the visiting students and their teachers with a deeper insight into the BA (Hons) Music programme at WIT and the required performance and music literacy standard,” she said.

She outlined some of the variety of work students are involved in:

Year 4 Music Tech students are working on a project to create the sound design for an entry in the Dublin St. Patrick's Day Parade in association with Spraoi Waterford. Spraoi will be choosing one of the sound designs for use in the St. Patrick's Festival parade, an event viewed by half a million people last year. The selected sound design used will also be played on RTE television.
