Welcome to the Post-Primary Languages Ireland/Languages Connect May Bumper Newsletter. PPLI offers foreign language supports, resources and training at primary and post-primary levels, and our team of experts work with many partners to diversify, enhance and expand the teaching and learning of foreign languages across all levels of education in Ireland. 
 
Language Trends Ireland, a report commissioned by PPLI and British Council Ireland on behalf of the Department of Education and Youth, was launched in May. This report examines modern foreign language provision, uptake, and learner attitudes across post-primary schools in Ireland. Details including the full report are available here>>
PPLI/Languages Connect is seeking to recruit an Education Officer for its primary programme. The candidate for this role should be a qualified primary school teacher with strong project management skills and competence in a foreign language. Apply by Tuesday 2 June. Read more>>
PPLI/Languages Connect is offering primary teachers and principals a valuable opportunity to conduct a funded, one-week observation of teaching practice in a primary school in the south of France, during autumn 2026. Apply by Monday 8 June. Further information can be found here>>
Do you teach, or know students, who speak Arabic at home? Fully-funded online language classes for Leaving Certificate Arabic are now open for registration. Students entering 5th year in September 2026 can register. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. Register here>>
Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) from across Ireland joined PPLI/Languages Connect recently to engage in collaborative discussions around the promotion and uptake of languages at third level. Funding is available to HEIs to support this aim with applications for the 2026/27 academic year now open! Apply by Friday 19 June here>>
