Munster Technological University (MTU) has secured four awards at the Higher Education Authority (HEA) Disciplinary Excellence in Learning, Teaching and Assessment (DELTA) Awards, which recognise outstanding contributions in Ireland’s higher education sector.
MTU received four of the seven national awards, underscoring its growing reputation for excellence in teaching and learning.
Welcoming the announcement, Professor Maggie Cusack, President of Munster Technological University, said “These awards recognise the strength of MTU’s teaching and learning community and reflect our deep commitment to excellence in student-centred education. They are a testament to the collaborative ethos that underpins our university and to our shared ambition to deliver a transformative educational experience.
“Building on our previous successes, this achievement also highlights how MTU continues to evolve—expanding opportunities for our students and staff, strengthening our engagement with industry and society, and enhancing the overall student experience. I congratulate all the winning teams on this outstanding achievement. Their dedication to innovation and excellence continues to enhance MTU’s impact and reputation at a national level.”
Prof. Christine Cross, Vice President Academic Affairs & Registrar, said “The recognition of our departments with the prestigious HEA DELTA Awards is a powerful validation of MTU’s commitment to teaching excellence and demonstrates that our collaborative, student-centred approach is setting a national benchmark for transformative higher education.”
The award-winning teams were Rethinking Engineering Education in Ireland (REEdI), the Hincks Centre for Entrepreneurship Excellence, the Department of Marketing and International Business, and the Home Economics and Business programme.
Rethinking Engineering Education in Ireland (REEdI) is a collaborative initiative developed by MTU and University of Limerick. The project has been acknowledged for its leadership in transforming engineering education through innovative approaches to teaching, learning and assessment. Funded by the Higher Education Authority under the Human Capital Initiative (HCI) Pillar 3, REEdI directly addresses the national challenge of developing a strong pipeline of engineering graduates to support Ireland’s innovation-driven economy.
Commenting on the award, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Dr Sean McSweeney said, “The MTU Faculty of Engineering is delighted to see the REEdI team recognised for its commitment to rethinking how engineering is taught and assessed. By working closely with employers and embedding innovative teaching practices, REEdI ensures the next generation of engineers are equipped with the skills, creativity and adaptability required to support Ireland's future economy."
MTU’s Faculty of Business received three awards in the Marketing; Entrepreneurship; and Home Economics and Business disciplines. Recognising the significant achievement, Dr Noel Murray, Dean of Faculty of Business said: “We are honoured to receive these three DELTA Awards, recognising our faculty’s commitment to innovative, student-centred teaching. This achievement reflects the dedication and collaboration of our community, and we remain committed to excellence in business education.”
The Department of Marketing and International Business was recognised for its innovative, student-centred approach to teaching, learning and assessment. With a strong focus on industry-engaged learning, students work on real-world projects and live briefs in collaboration with external partners, ensuring an academically rigorous experience aligned with professional practice. Central to this is the team’s AI³ framework, which integrates generative AI, industry engagement and academic integrity, equipping students to thrive in complex, technology-driven environments.
Entrepreneurship is a core pillar of the Faculty of Business at MTU and is advanced through the Hincks Centre for Entrepreneurship Excellence. The Centre, now receiving its third discipline excellence award since 2018, plays a key role in driving innovation and impact across the University.
The BA (Hons) Home Economics & Business programme was also recognised for its inclusive teaching and learning culture. The DELTA panel commended its strong student–staff partnerships, which empower students to pursue diverse career pathways. This approach supports the evolution of Home Economics beyond its traditional role in the post-primary classroom, while fostering a strong sense of cross-disciplinary community.
