Request a STEPS Engineer Visit to Your Class

Registration for this years Young Engineers Award is now open. 

The STEPS Young Engineers Award is a nationwide programme for 3rd and 4th class students. Teams of up to six Young Engineers use the STEPS Project Book to guide them through creating their very own engineering project, a project that will positively impact their local community.
 
The programme introduces engineering to young children and helps them to understand how engineers work together to improve our lives. 

Teachers do not have to have any understanding of engineering. The STEPS Project Book lays out the 5 project steps in an easy-to-follow manner, guiding the students through each stage: brainstorming their idea, drawing their design, making the prototype and evaluating the project. It has many opportunities for curriculum links, for example the environment, material investigation and report writing.

There is a fantastic opportunity for the Young Engineers to present their work to a visiting Engineer.

The competition element of the programme is encouraged, but optional.

Mark the Science Guy How-To Videos

This year we have teamed up with Mark the Science Guy who has created five videos, one for each step in the Project Book. Before commencing a new step, Mark will explain to your students how to get started. These are filled with great tips, fun and Mark's infectious enthusiasm for STEM.

Request a STEPS Engineer to Visit your Class

Request a STEPS Volunteer Engineer to visit your class during Presentation Week. We have STEPS Volunteer Engineers all over Ireland who would like to visit participating classes.

You will be asked if you would like to request a STEPS Engineer Role Model on the Registration Form. Or use our resources to contact a local engineering organisation, or parent engineer in the school. 

STEPS Project Book - as Gaeilge

This year the STEPS Project Book is available as Gaeilge! 

Register your class to access the Digital Teacher Toolkit and download a copy for your class. 

STE Curriculum  

The STEPS Young Engineers Award  aligns with the Engineering Section of the Draft incoming STE curriculum. 

Use our established programme and resources to make engineering easy and fun for you and your students, and even request an Engineer Visit!

Note: The competition element of the programme is entirely optional.
