Kerry College is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of a special art competition that celebrates the Irish language and promotes positive mental health awareness on campus.
The competition, a collaborative initiative between the college's Amber Flag committee and Irish language promotion efforts, challenged students to design a mural based on the traditional Irish seanfhocail (proverb), "Tagann an ghrian i ndiaidh na fearthainne" ("The sun comes after the rain").
The winning design, which will be painted by the Kerry College Art Club in the college canteen, was selected for its innovative blend of contemporary artistry with ancient Irish culture. The mural powerfully depicts nearly 2,000 years of Gaeilge heritage, with its rising sun motif beautifully capturing the message of hope embodied in the proverb.
A panel of distinguished judges including former Kerry College student and muralist Mikel Kryzi, along with poet and Irish language activist Áine Uí Fhoghlú, selected the finalists. The Amber Flag committee then made the final decision on the winning design.
Local business EF Signs has generously sponsored a €100 voucher for the competition winner, while the Kerry College Admissions Office has provided goodie bags for both the winner and runner-up.
