How would a worldwide fertiliser shortage affect agricultural markets? | Fertilisers are crucial for food systems, with far-reaching impacts beyond agricultural markets. The future of fertilisers and food systems |

Our latest analysis explores the influence of disruptions in fertiliser supply on global food prices. While short-term interferences in fertiliser supply can be mitigated by existing stocks, one scenario shows that prolonged shortages could increase global food prices by up to 6%, posing long-term threats to food security. |

The right agricultural policies can help to secure food prices, while also reducing the sector's carbon footprint. In one scenario, the removal of fertiliser subsidies in India led to reduced domestic use, resulting in decreased agricultural production and exports. As a result, agricultural imports increased.
Although this would cause a modest increase in global food prices, it would substantially cut agricultural greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, highlighting the pivotal role of domestic policies in attaining global environmental sustainability goals. |

Governments typically use a wide range of policies to support their capture fisheries. The OECD Fisheries Support Estimate (FSE) database is a unique source of information on government support to capture fisheries, allowing policy makers and other actors to understand, compare and assess fisheries policies.
Our recent brochure provides more insights on what the FSE contains and what you can do with the data. |
