DkIT’s BA Degree in Sport, Exercise and Enterprise is a 3-year industry recognised course that produces high calibre and award-winning graduates who are work ready and very employable. This course combines academic theory with practical application to improve students’ understanding of sport, exercise and physical activity throughout the life span. The course content is specifically aimed at developing skills and theory relevant to children, youths, adults, older adults, and special populations and reflect the changing nature of participation throughout growth, maturation, and aging. Students can achieve a wide range of coaching qualifications including GAA, FAI, Athletics, Kayaking, Mountain Biking and Disability Inclusion Training, giving students significant employable skills for the workplace.

This Level 7-Degree course also presents students with a unique opportunity to develop leadership, business and entrepreneurial skills in an environment that demands academic rigour as well as practical application.

Coaching Young People is also embedded into the 2nd year Physical activity in the Adolescent Years module. This has been made possible through the signing of an MOU in 2019 between DkIT and Sport Ireland Coaching.

By the end of the course, you'll have in-depth grounding in the fields of professional sport, health, and education which will assist you secure your ideal career when you graduate. You will also have the opportunity to continue with academic learning with a number of progressive, professional awards in Exercise and Fitness each year with the potential to gain a QCF Level 4 (NFQ level 6) and potential qualification as a specialist trainer with an add on Year 4. This, combined with modules designed to analyse and improve personal and team performance, makes you immediately employable as a professional practitioner.

The enterprise and business elements of the course focus on modules in creativity, innovation and teamwork, entrepreneurship, new venture development, social entrepreneurship, and graduate life skills. You will acquire the skills needed to assess current market conditions and develop your own business ideas. Furthermore, this course offers the opportunity to put theory into practice on Work Placement, where DkIT have built effective relationships with a number of innovative, supportive and exciting organisations. There is also the amazing opportunity to ‘Study abroad’ in UMEA University, Sweden, as part of our Erasmus programme.
