Update on Immersive Software Engineering in UL

A quick update from the ISE team.

Over the past number of weeks, ISE was delighted to host a number of face-to-face events. Following years of restrictions, zoom calls and a very quiet university campus we returned to face-to-face with a bang. ?

Stripes Rob Heaton's visit to the UL campus

At the end of May, we had a visit from Rob Heaton, a software engineer with Stripe. Rob spent 4 days working closely with the ISE team on course content for the first cohort of students arriving in September. We also had the opportunity for ISE co-director Stephen Kinsella to have a chat with Rob to learn more about him, discussing Rob’s career in software engineering, the work he does at Stripe, and his thoughts on what will make ISE unique.

Covering all areas

The first week of June was very exciting, we had close to 100 ISE visitors, on-campus in-person.

The IAB (Industry Advisory Board) met to ensure ISE is prepared to give the very best to our first cohort of students arriving at the beginning of September.

On Tuesday, June 7th, ISE hosted “Inspiration Projects and Portfolio Clinic”. Over 20 students and parents from around the country travelled to the ‘Nexus Innovation Centre‘ at the University of Limerick for our Immersive Software Engineering Inspires Workshop. This workshop was aimed at assisting 4th, 5th & 6th years who are interested in Software Engineering and who are potentially going to submit an ISE Portfolio.

On June 9th, ISE hosted many of our Residency Partners for a workshop at the Millstream common room in UL. The ISE team and partner companies discussed learning by doing, residency curriculum, and future steps, to ensure ISE students get the best experience and outcome from their time spent with these top companies.

Winner, Winner chicken dinner!

And finally, last but certainly not least, we had the pleasure of meeting two very excited students to present them with their competition winner prizes. Caitlin Earle and Niall Meade are the lucky winners of our PlayStation5 competition. Caitlin won our Instagram comp and Niall won our TikTok comp. Both were super delighted to get their hands on their new gaming consoles. Caitlin and Niall are both in the middle of their leaving cert exams at the time of writing so the very best of luck to both of them from ISE and UL. The two of you just need to hold off another few days, ace the exams and then enjoy the prize. ?
