Stress is a feeling of pressure and strain. Stress in small amounts can be beneficial and improve someone’s cognitive and physical performance but too much stress can be harmful.
Students are among those who are likely to experience too much stress, especially those who just finished high school and are about to get into college or university.
Stress has a variety of symptoms: physical (headaches, muscle aches, nausea, trouble sleeping, fatigue), emotional (sadness, sense of isolation, restlessness, feeling overwhelmed, irritability), cognitive (poor concentration, worrying, anxious thoughts, impaired judgement), and behavioural (altered sleeping and eating habits, lying, desire for isolation, trouble getting along).
If you know you experience too much stress, it’s best not to leave it as it is.
