Servisource Scholarship for Nursing & Midwifery Students

Servisource Scholarship Inspiring the Next Generation of Nursing & Midwifery Students

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) and nationwide healthcare recruitment specialist, Servisource are pleased to announce the winners of a scholarship programme which will provide two €3,000 scholarships for 4th year nursing and midwifery students. Aoibhin O Connor and Jennifer Wall were announced as the two recipients of this programme for the upcoming year. Aoibhin, from Crossmaglen, Co Armagh, is a 4th year Midwifery student and Jennifer, from Navan, Co Meath, is a 4th year Intellectual Disability student.

This scholarship initiative is aimed at encouraging nursing and midwifery students to share their thoughts on inspiring the next generation of nursing and midwifery students, identify what personal attributes they believe are required for a career in nursing and midwifery and to highlight the skills and knowledge they have attained whilst on clinical placement.

DkIT students were invited to apply for a chance to win the scholarships by either a written assignment, creating a 10 min video/media presentation or a Powerpoint Presentation with their ideas on how they would encourage the next generation to consider a career in nursing or midwifery.

Aoibhin said: "Winning the scholarship came as the biggest shock, but a very welcome one. It is definitely a big weight off the financial side of college going into my final year. Being a student with DKIT has been such a positive experience overall. The nursing and midwifery section has a lovely environment and the smaller class sizes allows the lecturers to get to know their students and they are always there where they are needed. A massive thank you to Servisource and DKIT for the award and continued help and support through the years."

Jennifer added “I was shocked when my name was called out. I couldn't believe I won it. I am thrilled and delighted.  I feel privileged and lucky to get to work with people with an intellectual disability and I hope this came across in my application. I really hope it does inspire people to choose this career, especially mature students like me. The learning environment in DKIT is very suited to mature students. The lecturers and staff in the nursing department are extremely supportive, friendly, approachable and student centred. Thank you to DKIT and Servisource for the opportunity to win this scholarship. “

Dr Briege King, Head of Department of Nursing, Midwifery & Early Years said “We were delighted to have this initiative with Servisource. Not only is this a fantastic opportunity to receive this generous scholarship, but it is also amazing for the sector and for us in DkIT to hear from current students on how they would inspire the next generation to pursue a career in nursing and midwifery.  I’d also like to thank Servisource for this scholarship opportunity and their continued collaboration and support for our students.”

Declan Murphy, CEO of Servisource said “Servisource are delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with DkIT again this year and to offer all nursing and midwifery students the opportunity to apply for a nursing and midwifery scholarship. We look forward to many successful years to come and would like to wish all the nursing and midwifery students every success in the future.”
