Origin of Irelands Ordnance Survey
Have you ever wondered how Ordnance Survey bench marks were cut in practice?
Dr Catherine Porter, Associate Professor at
UL’s School of History and Geography, explored this question at a workshop at the College of Further Education and Training this week.
Dr Porter leads the 'Locating Bench Marks, Preserving History’ project, which aims to identify, record and archive Ordnance Survey bench marks – important heritage relics that recorded height above mean sea level across Ireland in the nineteenth century.
