As students across the country take the next stage of their education, Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) has welcomed nearly 1,400 first-year students to its campus for college induction. The programme marked the start of their academic journey across a diverse range of degree courses. Throughout the induction, students explored the campus on guided tours and attended presentations by staff and the Students’ Union, gaining an introduction to the wide range of support services and opportunities available at DkIT.
The award-winning Smooth Muscle Research Centre (SMRC) at DkIT recently attended the International Union of Physiological Science (IUPS) in Frankfurt, Germany. IUPS is the largest international meeting of physiological scientists, educators and industry partners and is held every 4 years. Over 1, 500 attendees from over 70 countries attended the conference from September 10th to 14th, including nine SMRC team members from DkIT. The SMRC at DkIT studies the proteins and mechanisms that control contractions of the airways, urinary system, and reproductive tracts.
For DkIT student Lauren Corlett, studying film was never on the agenda. However, after extensive research in to potential career paths, she soon realised that it was the perfect fit. She has seen huge success in her 4 years at DkIT, with a short film “Echo”, which she both wrote and directed achieving multiple accolades, including “Best Drama Short Film” at the Royal Television Society Student Awards.
19-year-old Bobbie Gamble from Dundalk, a Business with Management student at DkIT has been named as one of the finalists for the Young Entrepreneur of the Year category in the 2025 Louth Business Awards, organised by Dundalk Chamber and sponsored by Dundalk Chamber Skillnet. Bobbie has been recognised for his success with 17 Vending & Events (known as 17 Events), the company he founded just two years ago.
