Mastering AI Study Skills

Surveys show that most Leaving Cert students are now using AI, and that they’re getting little or no guidance from their schools in doing so.
Used correctly, AI can be a superpower for learning across all subjects, but many students aren’t using it to supplement their learning, but rather to replace their thinking.
Our recent survey on Attitudes to AI in Education showed “Impact on critical thinking skills” as by far the top concern around AI use by students, and that’s been echoed anecdotally in conversations we’ve had with parents, teachers and students themselves.
This AI Study Skills Masterclass has been developed to address this exact challenge. Presented by Olus Education and Academy of Code founder, Diarmuid Ó Muirgheasa, this session will cover a wide range of topics, and students should expect to develop a strong understanding of how to maximise the value of AI in their learning journey.
Utilising AI as a Learning Partner: Discover strategies for using AI to deepen understanding, such as Socratic dialogue, rather than simply outsourcing thought or copying answers.
Applying Tailored AI Strategies for Different Subjects: Explore specific AI approaches for subjects like Maths, Languages, and Science, including generating practice questions, role-playing, and simplifying complex concepts.
Identifying and Mitigating AI Hallucinations: Understand what AI hallucinations are, where they commonly occur, and develop critical thinking skills to ensure you aren’t caught out.
Building Custom AI Tutors (Gems/Custom GPTs): Learn to create personalised AI assistants for various subjects, pre-programmed with specific instructions to guide your learning effectively.
Developing a Personal AI Game-Plan: Create a framework for when and how to leverage AI for maximum learning benefit, and when to engage in independent critical thinking and problem-solving.
