The National Recognition of Prior Learning Project has reached a number of significant milestones over the past number of months. We are delighted to take this opportunity to share a number of positive developments and outcomes with our community.
These achievements help to highlight all of the impactful ways that RPL has in terms of providing pathways to higher education, helping to bridge experience with access to formal education, and also its broader impact on enterprise and institutions.

Major Milestone in RPL Learner Data
Just recently and for the first time, comprehensive RPL learner data has been successfully gathered across our 14 partner higher education institutions in Ireland.
In March 2024, with the dedicated efforts of project leads and partner institutions, a baseline of learner data, essential for making informed decisions, tracking trends, and supporting ongoing and future RPL initiatives.
Key highlights: 3,544 learners used the RPL process in the 2021/2022 academic year. Over 3,800 students utilised RPL in 2022/2023. Find out more..

The National Recognition of Prior Learning in Higher Education Network showcased its expertise and practices at the 5th VPL Biennale held in Kilkenny. This international conference is jointly hosted by Canada, the United States, and Ireland with over 350 delegates from 31 countries marking a significant milestone in advancing RPL across various sectors. With 16 dedicated individuals presenting insightful findings and developments across 11 sessions, our network demonstrated expertise and approaches to implementing RPL. Read more..
