DkIT’s Marketing and International Tourism Course - New World of Employment

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) was excited to launch an exceptional new course in Marketing and International Tourism this year. This new course has a substantial emphasis on the Marketing aspects of tourism and due to the myriad of subjects and skillsets taught, the course will open up a wide range of career avenues for its graduates. Graduates of this course have the potential to be hired in jobs such as Sales & Marketing Lead, Tourism Sales & Marketing Executive, Marketing & Social Media Executive, Sales and Events Co-ordinator, Sales & Events Executive, Tourism Business Development Executive or Travel Consultant.

This three-year Honours degree course was created to meet the ever-evolving demand in an everchanging jobs market, particularly addressing the current skills gaps within the tourism sector. This is a unique course which combines tourism management with specialist marketing areas such as brand management, international business, and experience marketing. Students can gain practical experience and make valuable connections within the industry through the professional work placement element of this course. Graduates of this course will have learned from industry experts and will be facilitated to develop an increased knowledge of the sector through a vibrant and inspiring guest lecture series.  There is an extremely strong focus on the professional work placement component of this course that will prepare graduates for a successful career within a range of roles in the Tourism and Marketing sector.

Noel Caffrey - Manager, Groups, North America CIE Tours International said, “DkIT Students from whom we have hosted on placement, are motivated and enthusiastic undergraduates who are willing and eager to learn.  They are informed and skilled individuals who can make worthwhile contributions.  We are keen to strengthen our partnership with DkIT and are keen to recruit students for placement and potentially full-time employment from the new BA(Hons) Marketing and International Tourism Management Programme”.

One of the many fantastic things about this course is that students get the opportunity to study 3 languages (Spanish, French and German) to basic conversational level. Damon who is a current Year 2 student remarked on this “As a part of the modules on this course, there is an equal divide between learning the language and in addition also learning about the cultural aspects of the three language speaking regions.  I found these modules extremely interesting, the great thing is you also do not need any prior knowledge of languages or experience of these languages”.

Barbora who is Year 3 of International Tourism, who partook in the international project said, “As part of our course, International Tourism Management, we had the opportunity to be part of an Erasmus + project in Lens, France at the IUT institute. It was an unforgettable experience where we discovered a new country and its customs. We also improved our teamwork skills and mostly met new friends from France and Portugal, which we are still in contact with today. I personally think this project is a great addition to our course and it gives the opportunity to experience what the word International really means on this programme”.

Ugne who is a first-year student, selected the course because of her love of travel and culture, she has already given this course her seal of approval, “I love my new course, I can’t wait to graduate, and have a career in the tourism industry knowing I will also have a strong understanding of all things marketing”.
