DkIT Celebrates Women Day

Dundalk Institute of Technology were delighted to host a face-to-face event to celebrate International Women’s Day on campus in the Whitaker Theatre on Tuesday 8th March 2022. The event included an all-Female Panel discussion on ‘#Breaking The Bias’ which is this year’s global theme for international Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day is about celebrating women’s achievements and raising awareness of the importance of a diverse, equitable and inclusive world.

Dundalk Institute of Technology took this opportunity to reinforce their commitment within the Institute to promote a gender equitable institution of higher education. In March last year, DkIT was awarded the international Athena SWAN Bronze Award by Advance HE. This award is in recognition of its commitment to advancing gender equality in academia, and in promoting diversity and inclusion for staff and students in higher education. A very important validation for our efforts within DkIT to eliminate gender bias in higher education and develop an inclusive culture that values all staff.

The Panel at the International Women’s Day event comprised of speakers who all have direct links to Dundalk Institute of Technology;

• Edel Healy, Head of School of Health and Science DkIT
• Kenny Ogunjemilusi, 2nd year PhD student at DkIT who is examining entrepreneurship policies and access to finance on the island of Ireland from a gender perspective.
• Joanna Gardiner, CEO at the Gardiner Family Apothecary and the only female Chair of the DkIT Governing Body 2006 – 2010.
• Áine Brady, recently started her PhD which is a collaboration between DCU and DkIT and is looking at drug delivery in breast cancer.
• Stephanie Caffrey, A recent DkIT graduate who is forging her career in the creative industries as a music producer, musician and a live sound engineer.
• Anita Finnegan, Founder & CEO Nova Leah (DkIT). Global Expert in Cybersecurity.
