Curriculum Updates - NCCA

Issue 51 - October 2025

A Chairde,

Welcome to the autumn issue of info@ncca.

We’ve lots of early childhood and primary news. Linked below, the Aistear Síolta Practice Guide now reflects the key changes to the updated Aistear framework. If you’ve been following the Children’s School Lives study, you’ll want to read the latest report on children’s move from primary to post-primary school, and their hopes and concerns. Children and staff in Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál, Inchicore welcomed us on September 22 for the Minister’s launch of the redeveloped primary curriculum. You can read about the curriculum below and browse materials in the toolkits.

A lot has been happening with senior cycle redevelopment too. The Tranche 3 subject specifications will be published for consultation over the coming months. The draft updated Computer Science specification is already available; let us know your thoughts. If you’re working with the Level 1 and 2 Programmes, you’ll be interested in the new ‘Personal Care’ area and the elective modules now available. Finally, we’re delighted and excited to be working with 14 schools to develop proposals, grounded in the reality of school life, to improve options for all students to progress through senior cycle.

Back by popular demand, our ‘staff spotlight’ introduces two more colleagues.

Enjoy the midterm break. We’ll be back with more news early in the new year.
