Career guidance provision for adults has long been recognised as the weakest link in the chain in lifelong guidance careers services and systems in most countries. This is paradoxal as we spend most of our lives in adulthood, experiencing multiple transitions in work and life roles, and trying to balance both through compromises. Career guidance provision can assist us to better manage such transitions, and also offer employers useful and effective solutions for human resource issues, given the constantly changing nature of work itself and the demands for new skills and knowledge.
In the past two years, the OECD has produced several publications and studies to assist countries to develop career guidance policies for adults. Some of these are general in nature and others are country specific. Country specific studies are requested and paid for by individual countries.
