World Youth Skills Day 2026: Skills for a Shared Future

Tomorrow, 15th July, is World Youth Skills Day. Declared by the United Nations, the day highlights the importance of ensuring young people have opportunities to develop the skills they need for learning, work and life.

This year's theme "Skills for a Shared Future" recognises that building a better future depends on young people having opportunities to develop and use their skills.

Since launching in 2019, Skills Summary has been used across Ireland to help young people recognise the skills they are developing through youth work or volunteering, and articulate and communicate these skills to others.

Main supports on offer:

  • A transversal framework that values youth work and volunteering, and helps make young people's learning visible
  • Accessible online platform for young people to capture their skills
  • Free training, e-learning and multiple resources for youth workers
  • Ongoing and tailored support from the Skills Summary team

World Youth Skills Day provides an opportunity to celebrate the many ways young people learn and grow. It is also a reminder of the important role youth work plays in creating the conditions where young people can develop skills, build confidence and contribute to a shared future.

P.S. Throughout World Youth Skills Day, we’ll be sharing skills stories, resources and videos across our social media channels, highlighting the valuable learning that takes place through youth work every day. Follow along to hear from youth workers in organisations across Ireland, discover practical resources, and celebrate the skills that help shape a shared future!
Skills Summary is a free online platform for young people to learn about and measure their transversal skills gained through Youth Work and volunteering, and for youth organisations to measure impact. It was developed in partnership between the National Youth Council of Ireland, spunout and Accenture and in collaboration with young people, Youth Affairs and many youth and voluntary organisations across Ireland.
