Support Your Students’ Career Journey with the Róisín Kelleher Career Interest Assessment

Support Your Students’ Career Journey with the Career Interest Assessment

My name is Róisín Kelleher and I have worked extensively in the field of career guidance and education across Ireland.

I want to introduce you to the Career Interest Assessment, a modern, easy-to-use online guidance tool I have developed to support post-primary students as they begin to think about subject choices, further education, and future career pathways.

The Career Interest Assessment is designed to help students:

 better understand their interests and preferences

 see how these interests connect to real-world career areas

 start meaningful, structured conversations around their future

Importantly, it does not tell students what career to choose. Instead, it provides a positive, student-friendly framework that supports reflection, confidence, and informed discussion - particularly valuable when used alongside professional guidance counselling.

Developed with the specific needs of Irish second-level students in mind, the Career

Interest Assessment is developed to be reliable, with up-to-date information reflecting current senior cycle subject options, job titles and evolving labour market

trends.

How it works

Students complete an online questionnaire in their own time (in school or at home).

Once completed, they receive clear, easy-to-understand results highlighting key interest areas and related career categories. These results can then be used as a basis for guidance classes, one-to-one meetings, or subject choice discussions.

Why Choose the Interest Assessment Test?

Unlike many career tools that focus exclusively on CAO/Higher Education, this assessment supports a broad range of educational and training pathways, by also including:

  •  Tertiary Degree Programmes (via universities and technological universities)
  •  Labour Market Information to connect student interests with real-world demand
  •  Apprenticeships - it is the only assessment to offer clear results for this pathway
  •  Further Education and Training (FET) routes

Each student receives personalised results across eight key career areas:

Business, Creative, Information Technology, Outdoor, Practical, Social, Science and Apprenticeships, with each area supported by a ”Learn More” section offering long- term access to subject details, course listings, and career descriptions via live hyperlinks.

Many schools across the country have already adopted the tool as part of their TY and Senior Cycle guidance programmes. Feedback has been extremely positive, with guidance counsellors highlighting its clarity, student engagement, and ease of use.

School Plan

The School Plan is available on an annual subscription of €300 and provides access for students to complete the assessment on your school’s own website.

There is no complex setup required and schools can reuse the tool each year by renewing the annual subscription.

If you’d like to explore how this resource can benefit your students and your guidance department, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thank you for your time and for the invaluable work you do in shaping the futures of young people.

Le gach dea-ghuí,

Róisín Kelleher Guidance Counsellor
