Enterprise Skills Update: Quarter 3, 2025

Regional Skills have launched a major regional survey on barriers and motivators to employee participation in training and upskilling across the South-West. Survey results will be used to inform how education providers and policymakers design and deliver future earning supports — and build a stronger, more skilled workforce in our region.

Growth in Tertiary Degrees: a New Talent Pipeline

In May 2025, almost 40 new tertiary degrees were launched to create more accessible routes to university in fields such as ICT, business, and science. South-West programmes include animation & visual design, process manufacturing, and occupational therapy. Students start at local ETBs and progress to higher education, with integrated work placements offering employers a great opportunity to connect with and shape future talent. National Skills Council: Strategic Advice to Government

The National Skills Council recently launched its first strategic advice report to government. Key recommendations include:

Establishing a National Skills Observatory to enhance data availability and coherence across the skills system.
Targeted use of the National Training Fund to address priority areas.
Supporting the mainstreaming of flexible learning opportunities across all levels.
