BRAND NEW: COERCIVE CONTROL & DOMESTIC VIOLENCE WORKSHOPS

Dear Senior Cycle Educators,

As the school year begins, so too does the responsibility to prepare students for the realities they face — in their homes, relationships, and communities.

LawEd is proud to launch our brand new Coercive Control & Domestic Violence Workshop, developed in direct response to the growing need for education around respect, boundaries, and relationship safety among young people in Ireland. This workshop is suitable for students in 5th year, 6th year and LCA.

Why this workshop? Why now?

🔴 1 in 3 women in Ireland have experienced psychological, physical or sexual abuse
🔴 A 2021 study found that 40% of Irish adults don’t know what coercive control means

🔴 1 in 5 young women in Ireland have been subjected to intimate relationship abuse

🔴 An Garda Síochána responded to over 65,000 domestic abuse incidents in 2024

This workshop tackles an urgent issue that many young people do not recognise until it’s too late. It gives students the tools to navigate real-life scenarios, understand the law, and support themselves and others with confidence.

What will students learn?

✨ Recognising signs of coercive control — isolation, monitoring, emotional manipulation, gaslighting

✨ Understanding healthy vs. unhealthy relationships

✨ Identifying the different forms of domestic abuse beyond physical violence

✨ Learning about legal protections and how to seek help

✨ Supporting peers and knowing where to turn for support
