Munster Technological University (MTU) is delighted to announce new programmes at its Bishopstown Campus; the Bachelor of Engineering and Higher Certificate in Civil Engineering by Apprenticeship.
The programmes will commence in September 2025, offering an innovative model in the civil engineering profession through practical on-the-ground learning. The announcement this week marks the agreement for MTU to be a collaborative partner with Atlantic Technological University (ATU) on the Civil Engineering Apprenticeship Consortium, a body established to address the growing skills shortage in the industry.
It is estimated that around 3,000 additional civil engineers will be needed to support the country’s infrastructural targets which include Project Ireland 2040, the National Development Plan, the Climate Action Plan 2019, Housing for All, and Active Travel investments. With this in mind, the Civil Engineering Apprenticeship Consortium, in collaboration with ATU, developed the civil engineering apprenticeship programmes to provide formal training and learning with academic qualifications, increasing the uptake of Civil Engineering as a profession.
