Government gives approval to amend National Training Fund Act, unlocking funding package of €1.5 billion announced in October 2024. This is very welcome. However, in 2025 further and higher education and Skillnets are short of funds to meet industry skills and training needs. More insights here
 
Manufacturing Employment – 34,000 employed in South East

The manufacturing sector in the South East, employing 34,000 persons, is well spread across a wide range of activities: 

  • Food & Drinks Manufacturing – 9,500 employed 

  • Precision Engineering / Manufacturing – 8,800 employed 

  • Medtech Manufacturing – 7,000 employed 

  • Pharma Manufacturing – 6,000 employed 

  • Other Manufacturing – 2,700 employed 

Manufacturing has an ongoing requirement for a wide range of skills, particularly in engineering disciplines. More insights here

 
National Survey of Apprentices 2024-2025 

High levels of satisfaction recorded by apprentices and strong employment outcomes: 94% of respondents reported their apprenticeship gave them good employment opportunities. 85% said their employer supports their development, and 90% felt happy asking questions in college. 84% reported learning gave them confidence, and 76% believed their apprenticeship included the relevant skills needed for employment.
