International Year of Glacier Preservation 2025

Glaciers store 69% of Earth’s freshwater and play a crucial role in climate regulation. However, global warming is causing glaciers to retreat rapidly, raising sea levels and impacting ecosystems.

The UN has declared 2025 the International Year of Glacier Preservation, emphasising water security and climate stability.

Exploring glacier science helps students understand preservation and support SDG 13: Climate Action.
