The rapid integration of modern digital learning tools (DLTs) into the classroom since the COVID-19 pandemic began, from being an absent or minor component of face-to-face instruction to quickly becoming the dominant learning medium itself, has profoundly transformed post-secondary student learning experiences around the world.
DLTs have enhanced the learner experience by improving accessibility, engagement and learning proficiency. The importance of DLTs during the pandemic cannot be understated. Crucially, they provided a means for instruction and learning to continue despite unprecedented societal changes.
They may have also helped motivate students to engage with course material at a deeper level than thought possible through traditional teaching methods. They do so by using multisensory tools, apps and collaborative exercises not often utilised or even possible in traditional classroom environments.
