DkIT Games Development students in European collaboration

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT) is excited to announce the successful launch of the new academic year with an Erasmus Blended Intensive Project (BIP) hosted on campus. This initiative brought together second-year students from the Games Development degree at DkIT, along with students from VIVES University in Kortrijk, Belgium, and IUT Montpellier, France.

The project kicked off with informal introductions followed by engaging icebreaker sessions, allowing participants to get acquainted before forming collaborative groups. Each group was provided with a project brief that outlined essential rules and guidelines, setting the stage for brainstorming innovative ideas.

This year's theme, “Solutions towards a healthy and ageing society,” challenged students to develop digital tools or solutions addressing this pressing issue. Over the course of three and a half days, students developed their solutions and prepared for two key presentations: an initial pitch and a final presentation.

The dedication and teamwork displayed by the students were truly impressive, especially considering they were working with peers they had just met. To foster camaraderie and relieve some of the intensity of the project, a day was dedicated to social activities. Students enjoyed a trip to Dublin where they participated in a City Mystery Game, exploring the vibrant city centre in a fun and collaborative way while building friendships.

Michael Connolly, DkIT Lecturer who helped coordinate the trip, stated: “Overall, this experience proved to be an invaluable educational opportunity for our Games Development students from DkIT. Our own students significantly enhanced their confidence in both social and academic spheres throughout the Erasmus+ visit. It was a great opportunity for our students to interact with their European peers in a highly positive and enriching learning environment, an opportunity they might not have encountered otherwise. “
