We are proud to introduce you to our new and improved eLearning website, Learn with NALA. The website provides 50+ courses for free in subjects such as English, Maths, Computers and Digital Media.

Learn with NALA was developed especially for the one in six adults in Ireland with unmet literacy needs. This prevents them from doing things that many of us take for granted, such as helping kids with homework, going for a promotion or sending an email. NALA’s eLearning website learnwithnala.ie allows people to learn and improve these skills online and get a qualification if they want to. Or, you can learn over the phone with one of our friendly tutors.

We also have a range of Professional Development course for tutors available.

Please join us for free at our live ESOL conference on Thursday 19 May from 9.30am - 3.30pm at The Marino Institute of Education, it’s the first one in two years!

You can attend the conference and hear a range of speakers in the morning, followed by a series of ESOL workshops. For those who can’t attend in person, the morning session from 10am until 11.00am will be live-streamed on NALA’s YouTube Channel. It will be followed by an online ESOL webinar from 12pm to 1.15pm.

This case study tells the story behind the Peer-to-Peer Literacy Ambassadors’ and Tutors’ programme in Portlaoise Prison. A unique partnership between a group of adult learners in Portlaoise Prison, NALA, the Portlaoise Prison Education Unit, Waterford Institute of Technology and Laois Offaly Education and Training Board formed the foundation for the programme with support from Dublin Adult Learning Centre.

Leading the way in online learning

This research report tells the story of NALA's eLearning website WriteOn from 2008 - 2019. Over its eleven-year existence, WriteOn was a unique, powerful and empowering teaching and learning resource. It not only reduced barriers to access and supported greater participation, but it also provided learners with opportunities to recognise their prior learning, work towards learning new skills and have these certificated initially at Level 2 and subsequently Level 3.

Plain English is a way of writing and presenting information that helps someone understand it the first time they read or hear it. It involves short clear sentences and using everyday words. It does not involve small print or unnecessary jargon.

Take a look at NALA's Plain English Writing and Design tips to learn more how you can communicate clearly and effectively.

Or, you can also sign up to our next Plain English Open Training on 13 July.
