WuXi Biologics Scholarships for DkIT Science Students

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) are absolutely delighted to announce a new partnership with WuXi Biologics and WuXi Vaccines which will see DkIT’s School of Health and Science offer a new bursary programme that will provide two female 3rd year science students at DkIT with €1,500 financial support as they progress through their degree. This bursary provided by WuXi Biologics and WuXi Vaccines is part of the company’s Women in STEM (WiSTEM) initiative that bolsters the organisation’s dedication to empower and encourage more females to increase their representation and realise their potential in the fields of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

The recipients of this year’s bursary are Anya Benjamin a 3rd year student from BSc in Bioscience and Eubamweoefe Laura Benedo a 3rd year in BSc in Pharmaceutical Science. The students were tasked with an assignment themed “If we assume we’ve arrived: we stop searching, we stop developing”, a quote from the globally renowned Professor Jocelyn Bell Burnell who recently opened the Institute’s new state of the art Science Building which was named in her honour.

DkIT is the leading higher education provider in the region and are completely committed to STEM, one of the fastest growing industry sectors both locally and nationally. DkIT’s recent opening of the new Jocelyn Bell Burnell Building cemented the Institutes investment to increase capacity on Life Science, Health Science and Agri-Food programmes, helping DkIT to meet the growing demand from employers in the region for high-quality graduates in these specialised areas.  

Dr Gillian Lambe, Head of Department of Life & Health Sciences, DkIT said “WuXi Biologics are already a strong industry partner of DkIT and have hired many DkIT graduates, we are thrilled to be able to offer this scholarship to our students it’s a fantastic new initiative which will support, help and encourage women in science to achieve their full potential”.
