Winners of the Dublin Bay Biosphere Calendar Competition 2024 on North Bull Island

Dublin City Council is delighted to honour the winners of the Dublin Bay Biosphere Calendar Competition 2024.

The winners attended an awards ceremony hosted at the Interpretative Centre on North Bull Island over the weekend. Winners and runners up were awarded limited edition 2024 calendars and prize vouchers followed by specially commissioned activities, including a seashore safari with Seashorekids, to explore the island to learn about its important species and habitats.

The Calendar Competition was launched earlier this year to engage young artists (up to 18 years old) to share their impressions of the Dublin Bay UNESCO Biosphere Reserve through their artwork. Winning entries feature on the cover and each month of the calendar, with runners up also having their work displayed inside the calendar. This competition is the second year that the Dublin Bay Biosphere Partnership have run the competition, which aims to engage young people to appreciate the Dublin Bay UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Impressed by the standard of work, the Chairman of the Dublin Bay Biosphere Partnership, Leslie Moore, who is also the Head of Parks for Dublin City Council, stated:

“This is the second year that the Dublin Bay Biosphere Partnership have run the Calendar competition, which aims to engage young people to discover and foster an appreciation of the unique wildlife, history and culture of Dublin Bay’s UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The standard this year has been exceptional and I would like to commend all the entrants and our very deserving winners.”

Biodiversity Officer with Dublin City Council, Lorraine Bull, stated:

“We were delighted to host the winners of the Dublin Bay Biosphere Calendar Competition on North Bull Island and celebrate their amazing work, which has produced the beautiful images displayed in the calendar. Their talent and enthusiasm is to be commended.”
