Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board - Course Options

Every year, as exam results arrive, students and families begin weighing up their next steps. For some, university is their preference. But for many, Further Education and Training (FET) is a more attractive option - one that is practical, flexible, and closer to home.

FET, delivered locally by Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB), offers courses across a range of QQI levels – including Levels 5 and 6 which open doors to a wide variety of futures. These courses are designed not only to prepare people for the workplace, but also to support progression to higher education or to allow learners to build new skills that can change the direction of their lives or career.

With GRETB, learners can choose from apprenticeships, PLC courses, outdoor education programmes, with full-time or part-time study options. Our tertiary access routes in General Nursing, Mental Health Nursing and Intellectual Disability Nursing, along with the Software and Technology degree offer another route into university, which does not require points or CAO.  Visit https://gretb.ie/further-education-training/tertiary-degrees/ to find out more.

FET allows learners to set their own pace, gain confidence, and try out a subject area before making a longer-term commitment, such as a four-year degree. This approach gives people the breathing space to find what really works for them and to explore their potential.

FET isn’t just for those finishing school; FET is for everyone. From career changers to adults returning to education and life long learners  GRETB’s courses are available in communities across Galway and Roscommon, making high-quality education accessible to all.

So, whether the goal is employment, university, or simply the chance to try something new, GRETB’s FET programmes provide real pathways to the future.
