AI literacy - a skill for everyone

A new joint report highlights why AI literacy is becoming an essential skill for Europe’s workforce, alongside critical thinking and human judgement. It examines growing skills gaps and how education and training can help workers adapt to AI-driven changes.

As artificial intelligence becomes part of everyday life and work, understanding what it can do, where it falls short and how to use it responsibly is increasingly important across occupations. A new joint report examines how this shift is changing the skills Europe needs, from technical expertise to critical judgement and the ability to work effectively with others.

The report, Changing landscape of skills in the age of AI, brings together evidence from the European Training Foundation (ETF), Cedefop, Eurofound, the European Commission, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and UNESCO. Its central message is that AI literacy is becoming a basic competence, not just a specialist skill.
