How to Join the Fight against Climate Change

The BSc (Hons) in Spatial Planning and Environmental Management (TU835) at TU Dublin is a good choice for anyone interested in planning the future of towns and cities or managing a sustainable environment for the future.

The programme is engaged and active-learning based.  Students get involved in fieldwork, studio-work, group projects and meet with agencies, communities and other stakeholders in their studies.

Climate Change is a real planetary crisis for which we have an immediate responsibility.  We know that many students are passionate about combatting climate change, but do not realise there are viable and rewarding futures in the area.  In fact, now more than ever, we need talented graduates working in sustainable development.

TU835, a four-year Level 8 undergraduate Honours degree, offers a real career path for students who are socially and environmentally aware, possibly good with geography, science or economics, but who may not necessarily be interested in a purely technical or scientific field of study.

Because it is a combined programme, students have the flexibility to decide in second year whether to stream into one of two specialist, professional areas, either Spatial Planning or Environmental Management.  Spatial Planners plan the future of our towns, cities and regions.  Environmental Managers manage and protect natural environments for the future.

TU835 includes a work placement, with many recent graduates going on to find employment with their placement partner. The programme is professionally accredited and maintains strong links with industry and employers.  TU835 also includes a field trip to a European city or region.

TU835 has course content in many relevant areas such as climate policy, housing, sustainable mobility, nature conservation, the future of cities and the sustainable development goals. Our students run their own Environment, Planning and Sustainability Society (@TUDublinEPS) and are centrally involved in TU Dublin’s Green Campus activities.

Climate Change, the environment and sustainability are central to everything that takes place at TU Dublin Environment & Planning.  TU835 gives young people the skills to manage, protect and develop a sustainable environment for the future.
