UL offers a four-year BA Honours degree, in Contemporary Dance, delivering over 25 hours of practical classes per week, taught over two 12-14 week semesters per year. Alongside physical classes, students engage in theoretical and complementary studies to prepare them for a professional career as dance practitioners. The students learn a range of contemporary dance techniques, as well as ballet and movement awareness techniques such as yoga, Pilates and Feldenkrais.
Each student will study experiential anatomy, movement analysis, dance studies, choreographic thinking, and dance pedagogy. This training environment also allows students the opportunity to engage with complementary movement disciplines including Aerial and Vertical dance, African Dance, Hip Hop, Flamenco and Irish traditional dance among others. In our world class studios, students work with local and international teachers and visiting professional artists, leading to performance opportunities that impart real-world experience in the performing arts.
