It's a busy time of year for The Lir Academy!
Just around the corner are our two upcoming productions: Lobby Hero written by Kenneth Lonergan, directed by Annabelle Comyn, will take place from Thursday, 25th May – Wednesday, 31st May. At the same time, we will have a devised show, Untitled, directed by Wayne Jordan taking place from Friday, 26th May – Thursday, 1st June.
We are currently accepting direct applications to our Stage Management and Technical Theatre degree course and our MFA courses. Below are also details of our upcoming short courses. |

Congrats to our IFTA Nominees and Winners |

| Congrats to all the nominees and winners, especially those from The Lir family. Alumnus Danielle Galligan and Eanna Hardwicke were both nominated for the IFTA Screen Ireland Rising Star 2023 award, with Danielle also being nominated for best lead actress in the film category for Lakelands. Also in that category was graduate Zara Devlin, who was nominated for her role in Ann. In the drama category, graduate Alison Oliver was nominated for best lead actress. Well done to Board Member Dearbhla Walsh and graduate Paul Mescal on winning in their prospective categories - we are proud of you all!

Join us for The Backstage Club! |

Join us in celebrating all things production on Wednesday 12th July at 6:30pm for The Backstage Club at The Lir. The evening will start with a pre-show cocktail, followed by a choice of one of our GradFest shows – The Aliens written by Annie Baker or The Sugar Wife written by Elizabeth Kuti. Then it’s backstage for more refreshments, a behind the scenes dining experience with a difference, fun, music and entertainment until late. Dress code is of course – wear something black, smart/creative/techie – you choose! Fundraiser tickets are €150 and for that you will be fed, watered and entertained as well as having an automatic entry into a raffle with fabulous prizes. All proceeds will go towards the Stage Management and Technical Theatre bursary. Support us, supporting the future backstage crews, book your ticket here. Job Vacancy - Course Director Foundation Diploma in Acting & Theatre Apply by 5pm on Monday, 12th June |

The primary role of the Course Director Foundation Diploma in Acting & Theatre is to lead on the delivery of all aspects of the Foundation Diploma under the supervision and guidance of the Director of Actor Training & Post Graduate Study and the Academic Director. The role will involve leading on the delivery of the taught modules; overseeing Foundation Diploma students’ progression through the programme; and providing one on-one support and guidance to the students’ regarding their academic and professional development and progression. MFAs in Playwriting, Theatre Directing and Stage Design Applications Now Open: closing date is 30th June |

The Master in Fine Art Playwriting, Theatre Directing and Stage Design programmes are now accepting applications. These courses are designed to give students the skills they need to pursue a career in the professional theatre and related industries. The final deadline is 30th June. |

Lobby Hero tells the story of Jeff, a luckless young security guard trying to get his life together after being thrown out of the navy. Lobby Hero is a moving, emotionally-nuanced drama mixing ideas about race, gender, class, and corruption with moments of wit, comedy, and romance. |

Regina wants to make a performance that can stop time and break hearts.
This entire show was created by the company and director in five weeks. It was written by the director from improvisations and discussions with the company. Additional speeches and dialogue are by the cast and creatives. All video content was created by the company. The show remains UNTITLED. |

Intermediate Acting: Character Development Course begins: 24th July 2023 Duration: 1 week, 10.00am - 5.00pm
This week-long course, a continuation from the Introduction to Acting course, will concentrate on working with a director on the study of characters and individual scenes from a number of contemporary plays. |

Summer Acting Camp Course begins: July & August dates Duration: 1 week, 10.00am - 2.00pm
The course is designed for young actors aged 13-15 who have a passionate interest in performing and would like to have an early start in acting training. Participants will get a taste of the environment of a theatre academy and hone their skills under the supervision of core Lir Academy tutors.
Two separate, week-long courses are running both in July and August. |

Young Actors Course Course begins: 17th July 2023 Duration: 4 weeks, 10.00am - 5.00pm
The course is designed for young people aged 16 - 21 who: - Have a passionate interest in performing - May be thinking of applying to The Lir Academy or a similar drama academy - Have an interest in theatre and who would like to explore the craft of acting further |
