TY Entrepreneurship Programme at DkIT

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) were absolutely delighted to launch the start of their yearly TY Entrepreneurship Programme with three local secondary schools, De La Salle Dundalk, St. Louis Dundalk and Our Lady's Greenhills Drogheda. This programme saw the Institute cater for over 65 Transition Year (TY ) Students over the last two weeks.

The programme delivered by DkIT is designed to develop the TY students entrepreneurial, creative and innovation skills through the development of a product 'Pro-Biotic Bubble Tea'. The TY student groups had to consider, branding, formulation, packaging, manufacturing, and the distribution of their product.

Each secondary school spent one week with the DkIT programme team which comprised of members from the School of Engineering, School of Health & Science and School of Business & Humanities (Dr. Bridget Kelly, Dr. Kate Johnston, Paul Durcan and Maryellen Kelledy) both in their secondary school and on the DkIT campus.

This initiative is widely supported by the whole Institute from the Schools leadership team, technicians, administration teams, IT, catering, marketing and a special shout out to the school group judges who consisted of David Connolly, New Frontiers, Lavina McGahon, Thrive and Frank Farias from Overhaul, who are all based in the Institute’s Regional Development Centre (RDC)

Maryellen Kelledy, Lecturer, Department of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering, DkIT said, “We were delighted to run the TY Entrepreneurship Programme this September. Funded by the HEA, the programme goes from strength to strength each year. I know it's one of mine and my colleague's favourite programmes to work on and it’s a fantastic example of Business, Engineering and Science lecturers working together. Each year the quality of products and professionalism presented by these TY students continue to astound and inspire us. We know the world of entrepreneurship in our region has a safe future”.
