Enrolment opened yesterday for online primary summer courses. Two courses are on offer: Multimedia Projects on Climate and Sustainability, July 3-20 and Introduction to Digital Citizenship Education (Primary), July 3-20. Participants must choose and enrol in one course only. These free courses are approved for EPV days. Enrolment closes when all places are taken. ![]() August 'Planning Days' A brief reminder to post primary principals and teachers that, for the second year running, a range of online courses will be freely available in late August during planning days. These will include a new course on Leading Digital Learning for both school leaders and digital technology leaders, as well as current courses on Digital Learning Planning, Cyberbullying and more. Good Practice ![]() How we created our FÍS film Madonna Byrnes, a teacher at Scoil Éanna Bullaun talks through the steps involves in creating a film with 6th class. This collaborative whole class project brings together the skills of storyboarding, music, visual art and editing. ![]() Engaging in a global climate change project with multimedia Kate Murray, a teacher at St. Augustine’s National School Clontuskert, describes how her school uses multimedia to engage regularly with a global climate change project. Digital Technology Infrastructure ![]() Managing Printing in the School Printing costs in a school can be significant, especially in larger schools. Improving how printing is managed, by making it simpler and easier for schools can also help, as it frees up teachers to focus more on teaching and learning, rather than on where to find a specific toner cartridge for a fading printer. A Managed Print Service (MPS) is generally more appropriate for larger schools and is a cost-effective alternative to having many types of smaller printers being used throughout the school. Science Experiments Captain Zoom and her crew of scientists are back with exciting experiments, curious kids and a trip to a faraway place. RTÉ's Let's Find Out! has lesson plans and videos to accompany each experiment and we have gathered them all in one place for you to use in the classroom. ![]() Student Area Maths Scoilnet has a special Student Area where you will find a wide range of Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate resources to help you with your maths. Areas covered include Algebra, Functions, Statistics & Probability, and Geometry & Trigonometry. ![]() Get Sun Smart! Lesson Plans The HSE’s NCCP in collaboration with Healthy Ireland have launched the Get SunSmart! Campaign. The campaign is designed to help educate young people about the importance of protecting your skin while enjoying time outdoors. Get SunSmart! digital lesson plans and resources are available on Scoilnet. There is also a Children's Art Competition that pupils can enter. ![]() ![]() Media Literacy Award Winning the MLI Member Special Contribution Award, Webwise was among the winners at the inaugural Media Literacy Ireland Awards recently. More News ![]() FÍS Film Awards 2023 Competition There is an open invitation to all Department of Education designated Irish primary schools to enter their films into the annual national FÍS Film Awards competition. There is no need to register in advance. To enter, primary schools across the country are asked to create an (up to) five-minute film on a subject of their choice. The competition is now open for entries. Closing date is Friday, 30th June, at 5pm sharp. |
