New Website for Stay at Home Tourism

Fáilte Ireland

Message from the CEO of Fáilte Ireland

This week, we launched our new look website for domestic visitors, DiscoverIreland.ie, as part of our major drive to encourage people to take domestic breaks. The website has been redesigned as the one-stop shop for domestic visitors, showcasing the wealth of things to see and do across Ireland. We have built DiscoverIreland.ie with mobile users in mind and the content puts the needs of the visitor first and makes planning domestic breaks easy and fun.

As DiscoverIreland.ie drives referrals to the websites of tourism businesses, I would encourage all businesses to ensure they are listed and to keep those listings updated.

As part of our new ‘Ireland, make a break for it’ domestic marketing campaign, we have also joined forces with RTÉ on a new television show called ‘No Place Like Home’, presented by Kathryn Thomas, to show the nation that there is really ‘No place like Home’ when it comes to holidays.

For more information on our marketing campaigns and suite of business supports, please  visit www.failteireland.ie and our online COVID-19 support hub.

Yours sincerely,

Paul Kelly,

CEO, Fáilte Ireland

DiscoverIreland.ie

According to Fáilte Ireland research, 60% of Irish people are now planning a domestic break in Ireland in the next five to six months. People want reliable information on things to do and see quickly, easily and more often on the go.

The new DiscoverIreland.ie features unique local content and hidden gems which people want more and more of, as well as the traditional well-known attractions and sights,  presented in a way that caters to all visitor demographics and interests.

Get your business, festival or event listed on DiscoverIreland.ie now to reach thousands of visitors every week as they plan their domestic break. If you are already listed, update your current listing now to make sure you are maximising the opportunity to make your business stand out.

Government Supports

Webinar with Revenue: Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme

The introduction of the new Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS) was announced in the Government’s July Stimulus Package last week. This Scheme will replace the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme (TWSS) from 1st September this year. As these schemes are vital to the sustainability of tourism businesses across the country, Fáilte Ireland is hosting a live webinar with experts from Revenue on Thursday 6th August at 12noon to help businesses navigate and leverage these initiatives.

The experts from Revenue will cover the key considerations businesses will need to make in transitioning from the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme (TWSS) to the new Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS).

You must register for this event before Wednesday, 5th August.

You can also submit questions that you would like to be addressed during the session. In order to get the very most from this live broadcast, we strongly recommend that you review the scheme details here

Authority agrees €1 Registration Fee

Under the Tourist Traffic Acts 1939-2016 there is a requirement for a fee to be paid for both an application and registration of a property that is considered a Prescribed Term and an annual renewal fee. The price previously varied depending on style of property and the number of rooms. At its meeting this week, the Authority of Fáilte Ireland agreed that this fee will be €1 per business for both application and renewal for 2020 and 2021.

Properties that are not required to register under the Tourist Traffic Acts (non-statutory properties) will not be charged to become participants of the National Quality Assurance Framework. The Accommodation Development team in Fáilte Ireland welcome all enquiries and will assist in progressing new applications.

Ireland, make a break for it

Fáilte Ireland is encouraging businesses to get involved in its new domestic marketing campaign, ‘Ireland, make a break for it’ and has developed a toolkit to help tourism businesses to use the branding to boost their own marketing efforts.

No Place like Home

Fáilte Ireland and RTÉ have joined forces on a new television show called ‘No Place Like Home’ which will air on RTÉ One from Sunday August 9th and run for four weeks. The show will be hosted by television presenter Kathryn Thomas and will showcase regions across Ireland, packed with inspirational and informative ideas for holidays in Ireland.
